Town sued for $10M
Four councillors also named in lawsuit Sarah Ferguson Fort Erie Times Just days before the Oct. 27 municipal election, the Town of Fort Erie and four of its councillors are facing a $10-million lawsuit launched by the Molinaro Group. In the suit filed last week against the town, which names councillors Paul Collard, John Hill, Don Lubberts and Bob Steckley, the Molinaro Group alleges the defendants have committed a breach of trust and made efforts to hinder the project. In December of last year, the Molinaro Group backed out of its 12-storey condominium project after Fort Erie council denied the developers an extension. The Molinaro Group, a Burlington- based development company, had low sales and asked council to extend a deadline to June 2015 from Dec. 31, 2013 to allow for more time to sell condo units. The agreement allowed the Molinaro Group to walk away from the project in December with no consequences if less than 45 units had been sold. After the request was denied, the Molinaro Group scrapped the project. See Page 3
